A lunar rover is an EV(electric vehicle) that is used by astronauts on the moon to travel short distances during their missions. Astronauts during Apollo missions have used lunar rovers to travel short distances especially for lunar rock collection. The lunar surface isn't easy to traverse. Rocky surfaces and sharp rocks make it really hard even for the rovers to cover distances. The lunar soil is another hazard because the dust particles in the soil are so small that it can easily creep into tiny cracks and destroy any electronics inside. Minus the luxury of maintaining the vehicle while its out of the garage in the lunar surface, makes things even more challenging.
Not to forget, our eggonaut will be travelling in the lunar rover. Which means the students have to take into account the passenger onboard while they traverse the rough terrain as they find valuable rock samples, pick it up, store it and head back to the habitat where astronauts can analyse the samples.
